The students will begin the lesson on weather by doing the introduction activity (dressing the bear appropriately), followed by the completion of the weather questionaire provided.

For the weather questionaire each student needs to complete and discuss with their group their answers and we will go over as a class and turn in.

Next,I will read cloudy with a chance of meatballs. After students will choose between a tornado, thunderstorm, and hurricane to work on a group project. Each group will write a report describing what one of these is, how they are formed, where do they mostly occur, etc...Students will use their textbooks as well as informational websites as references which are provided.

The students will use a map to observe and track weather conditions in at least one different state or country for five consecutive days and record their information on a separate sheet and title it Data Collection Sheet. The students will access the website http://www.wunderground.com/, successfully locate their chosen city or town and record the current weather conditions. Students will look back at their particular city/state and record the weather for the next 5 days.

When all of the data has been recorded the students answer the following questions:
  • What was the highest temperature in your location and when did it occur?
  • What was the lowest temperature in your location and when did it occur?
  • How much rain did your location receive?
  • Would you like to live in the town you tracked the weather for? Why or why not?
After the students have answered the above questions, using a large wall map, we will compare and contrast the weather in the locations that they have tracked to that where we live.
